Huma Abedin on The Clinton Campaign and a Life in Politics

Drawing from her new book 'Both/And', Abedin revealed the details of the many tumultuous years in her professional and personal life

Huma Abedin was Hillary Clinton’s most trusted aide and adviser. She served as vice chair of Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and before that was deputy chief of staff when Clinton was U.S. Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013.

Abedin’s time with Clinton saw both women go through extraordinary personal and professional highs as well as unimaginable lows. In November 2021 Abedin came to Intelligence Squared and, drawing from her new book Both/And, she revealed the details of the many tumultuous years in her professional and personal life.

Abedin sought to reclaim the story of her marriage to former congressman and convicted sex offender Anthony Weiner: what drew her to him, how much she wanted to believe in him, the devastation wrought by his betrayals — and their shared love for their son. She also told her own story of a young woman with political aspirations and ideals coming into her own in high-pressure jobs, and give advice to women looking to go into leadership and support others to follow in their footsteps.

Hear Abedin’s frank story of a life in politics. And learn why she believes at a time where we are told to choose between either/or she believes we can be both/and.
